How to get Hertz status

Most ways into Hertz status are a one-time move: a five-year status match that eventually needs renewing, or a card benefit that runs as long as you hold the card. For Five Star, the car-rental matches are global and repeatable once every five years — Avis Preferred Plus (under 25 rentals in the year), National Emerald Club Executive, and Sixt Platinum or Gold all convert, good through December 31 of the second calendar year after approval. In Canada, Amex Platinum (Canada) and Amex Business Platinum (Canada) confer Five Star free on enrollment. In the US, several Capital One cards do the same via the Benefits tab — Venture, Venture Business, VentureOne, VentureOne Business, Savor, Quicksilver, Spark Miles, and Spark Miles Select. Delta SkyMiles Platinum Amex and its Business counterpart confer Five Star on US cardholders who enroll; Amex Gold (US) gained the same free upgrade on April 30, 2026. In the US and Canada, Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite converts to Five Star while you hold Titanium.

President's Circle, the top tier, follows the same shape at a higher bar. In the US, Amex Platinum (US), Amex Business Platinum (US), and Capital One Venture X confer it free on enrollment — Venture X's version became permanent on September 16, 2024. Amex Centurion (US) and Capital One Venture X Business also confer it, the latter via the same Benefits-tab enrollment as Venture X. Delta SkyMiles Reserve Amex and its Business counterpart confer President's Circle on enrollment too. The same five-year global match reaches President's Circle from Avis President's Club, National Emerald Club Executive Elite, Enterprise Plus Platinum, and Sixt Diamond. Avis Preferred Plus gets you here too, but only with 25+ rentals — fewer and you land at Five Star instead. Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite also converts to President's Circle, running as long as you hold Ambassador Elite, unlike the five-year car-program matches.

One harder route: Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite doesn't convert automatically, but fast-tracks you to Five Star after 7 rentals in a 12-month period, and the resulting status holds for 12 months once earned, contingent on keeping Platinum Elite active.
