What Southwest Rapid Rewards unlocks

If you already hold Southwest A-List Preferred, you're one step from elite status in three other airline programs, all free to claim. The A-List Preferred tier matches straight into Alaska Atmos Gold in the US and into United MileagePlus Premier Gold, and separately unlocks American AAdvantage Platinum through American's Instant Status Pass — though holding onto that Platinum status past the initial period requires 25,000 Loyalty Points every four months. Southwest's base A-List tier, which A-List Preferred exceeds, is also on JetBlue TrueBlue's eligible list for Mosaic 1 status in the US.

All four of these are standing matches you keep on your own account rather than one-time perks, and none cost anything to claim — the maintenance terms differ enough between them that it's worth checking the reference below before you count on any of them long-term. The United MileagePlus Premier Gold match also opens a longer road into car rental status: it feeds a match into National Emerald Club's Executive Elite tier, which in turn forks into top-tier matches at Avis (President's Club), Hertz (President's Circle), Enterprise Plus (Platinum), and Sixt (Platinum) — all free, reached through a multi-step chain the reference below lays out hop by hop.

The hotel and cruise side is a different story: nothing there is free. American AAdvantage Platinum only converts into World of Hyatt Discoverist status if you actually earn around 100,000 AAdvantage Loyalty Points toward that specific milestone reward — holding Platinum alone doesn't do it. From Discoverist, a genuinely free match reaches Best Western Rewards Platinum, and a separate one reaches MSC Voyagers Club Silver, which itself matches into Explora Club (Explora Journeys) Silver. Given the AA earning requirement gating the whole branch, it's only worth pursuing if you're already racking up Loyalty Points for other reasons.
