American AAdvantage's three elite tiers — Platinum, Platinum Pro, and Executive Platinum — all have a free way in, and every one of those free paths runs through the same mechanism: the AAdvantage Instant Status Pass. Current, earned United MileagePlus Premier Gold,
JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic 2, or
Southwest Rapid Rewards A-List Preferred status gets you Platinum with no fee attached, as long as your name matches across accounts and the status you're presenting wasn't itself matched, promotional, or lifetime.
Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum use the same free mechanism, just fed by higher competitor tiers. United MileagePlus Premier Platinum, JetBlue Mosaic 3/4, or Delta SkyMiles Platinum Medallion get you Platinum Pro; United Premier 1K or Delta SkyMiles Diamond Medallion get you Executive Platinum. None of these is a one-time credit you just bank: the Instant Status Pass runs three consecutive four-month phases, a year total, and you have to keep earning Loyalty Points each phase to hold the tier — 25,000 for Platinum, 42,000 for Platinum Pro, 67,000 for Executive Platinum. You're also only eligible for this route if you haven't completed an AA status-match or challenge in the past two years, so it's worth saving for whichever tier you can actually sustain through all three phases.
If you don't hold any qualifying competitor status, American also runs a paid targeted-offer route into Platinum that skips the match entirely — no elite status required, but it runs roughly $495 and sits completely apart from the free program above.
