Wyndham Rewards has two elite tiers, and every free path into either one runs through a match with another hotel program rather than a straight card conferral. Platinum is the easier entry: a free match from World of Hyatt Explorist status or
IHG One Rewards Gold Elite gets you there, and both routes work worldwide.
Diamond has by far the longer list of doors. The Wyndham Rewards Earner Business card is the only route that isn't a match — hold it in the US and Diamond status comes automatically, for as long as you keep the card open, with no elite status or stay history required elsewhere. Everyone else gets there by matching in from elite status at a rival chain:
Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite and above,
Hilton Honors Gold and Diamond, World of Hyatt Globalist, IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite and Diamond Elite,
Choice Privileges Diamond, or
Best Western Rewards Diamond all qualify, and none of these matches is tied to a specific market.
The trade-off is durability. The card's Diamond status just sits there as long as the account stays open; a matched status starts on a 90-day clock that only extends if you rack up qualifying nights at Wyndham properties — 4 nights for a Platinum match, 10 for a Diamond match. If you're deciding between the two Diamond routes, the card is the low-maintenance option; the match gets you there instantly if you already hold qualifying status elsewhere and don't want another card.
