How to get Virgin Atlantic Flying Club status

Most airline elite status comes from flying enough miles or segments in a year. Virgin Atlantic Silver has exactly one route in, and it doesn't involve a plane at all — it runs through a credit card. The US Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard (Synchrony) earns 25 Flying Club Tier Points for every $2,500 in qualifying spend, but that earning is capped at 50 Tier Points a month.

Silver requires 400 Tier Points, so even maxing out the monthly cap takes a minimum of 8 months, working out to $40,000 in spend along the way. There's no faster free route and no conditional path to Silver beyond this one — the card is the whole story at this tier.

Worth knowing before you plan around this card: the same monthly cap that gets you to Silver blocks the next tier up. Gold needs 1,000 Tier Points in a year, but the card's cap tops out at 600 Tier Points annually, so card spend alone can't carry you past Silver.
